MAR Systems Wins NorTech Innovation Award

Founder works with Obama Administration at “Winning the Future Forum on Small Business” event

(SOLON, Ohio) March 1, 2011 – MAR Systems was presented with a NorTech Innovation Award on Feb. 24, 2011. The award, presented in partnership with Crain’s Cleveland Business, honors the achievements of Northeast Ohio’s most innovative organizations and leaders.

MAR Systems has developed patented, proprietary processes that remove mercury, arsenic, selenium and other metal contaminants from industrial wastewater, industrial runoff, ground wells and problematic legacy water sources with its Sorbster™ media. The Sorbster™ media has attracted attention from organizations like NorTech because it has demonstrated success that is 20,000 faster than current technologies, making it a faster, cheaper and greener water treatment solution.

MAR Systems has also been called one of America’s Most Promising Start-Ups as well as one of America’s Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs in 2010, according to BusinessWeek magazine.

Because of MAR Systems Inc.’s notoriety and domestic market potential, founder Claude Kennard was invited to participate in President Obama’s “Winning the Future Forum on Small Business” event at Cleveland State University on Feb. 22, 2011. Kennard was one of only about 100 Northeast Ohio entrepreneurs asked to offer their thoughts on the regions entrepreneurial ecosystem to the president and his cabinet members, who moderated small breakout sessions.

Kennard worked directly with Secretary of Energy Steven Chu.

“We discussed how the administration can align with small businesses to encourage entrepreneurism within federal and EPA laboratories,” said Kennard. “We also discussed the potential for these laboratories to become innovative engines to aid small business while providing access to exceptional technical assistance and advanced instrumentation.”

As a source of innovation in Northeast Ohio, MAR Systems plans to increase its manufacturing capacity – creating jobs while simultaneously addressing the conflict between industry and the environment.

“We are committed to Northeast Ohio being part of the solution,” said Kennard.
