MAR Systems is committed to partnering with organizations and communities around the world to solve or reverse our global water crisis. The presence of metal contaminants from natural and man-made sources is increasing quickly and globally, and the effects of these hazardous materials in water streams have serious consequences for both the human race and our environment. The following list shows just some examples of how MAR Systems is ensuring our drinking water is safe for consumption and our environment is protected.

Case Western Reserve University

MAR Systems’ investment fund has awarded a substantial grant to Case Western Reserve University to sponsor a post doctoral fellow to analyze an improved water treatment media created by MAR Systems.

MAR Systems received two U.S. patents in 2008 for certain processes of reducing the levels of mercury and arsenic in industrial water streams, and the study will help in the process of developing a market-ready product by the end of 2009. Initial testing showed the Sorbster™ brand of media extracts hazardous materials an estimated 90 percent faster than other medias in the market

King County, Washington – Dr. Ngozi Oleru : Division Director, Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Services Division

The Washington State Department of Ecology and the United States Geological Survey have determined that the natural background level of arsenic in Puget Sound soil is 7ppm (parts per million). The state average is also 7 ppm, and levels are 9 ppm and 5ppm in the Spokane Basin and Clark County respectively.

In western Washington a source of arsenic contamination was the Asarco copper smelting plant which operated for nearly 100 years near Tacoma. The area immediately surrounding the plant is an EPA superfund site because of the serious arsenic and lead contamination from the smelter. Arsenic and lead smokestack releases spread over wide parts of King County and surrounding areas, including Puget Sound. Public Health officials in Seattle and King County and the State Department of Ecology are working together to determine the extent of arsenic and lead contamination in King County.
